With the Guitar of Seven Strings

With the Guitar of Seven Strings is a multicultural theatre project which units Roma artists from different parts of Europe. The play is based on a novel by Finnish Roma Author Veijo Baltzar and deals with the persecution of a group of Roma during the Second World War.

At the origin of the project are Veijo Baltzar and Rahim Burhan, the Macedonian director of famous German Pralipe-theatre from Müllheim.

The work is an international cooperation and will gather Roma artists from different European countries. It will be played in Roma language and translated in English, German, French and Swedish. The premiere will take place in summer 2007.

As a writer, Veijo Baltzar's aim has always been to transcript the soul of his people.The mission of the play is to bring into light the partial genocide of the Roma in Europe, to make the history of the Roma known.

"With the Guitar of Seven Strings" aims at fostering inter-cultural dialogue between peoples, generations, artists and decision-makers, transmitting values of solidarity between peoples and gathering European citizens. Its final purpose is the promotion of cooperation and the creation of a real network of Roma artists in Europe.
